Recently, many in our church family sensed the Lord working among us, challenging and charging us to stand in the gap. Some sensed God leading them to make that a public commitment, others committed to stand in the gap from their pews. As those willing to stand in the gap, we are agreeing with the Lord to pray for everyone in our worship service – that His word would speak to the hearts of those worshipping with us, that the Holy Spirit would have absolute freedom to work in our midst, freeing us from a spirit of complacency and giving us a humble, submissive, quick obedience to what we sense God is doing in our each of our hearts. Those willing to stand in the gap do it in the spirit of Isaiah’s response (Isaiah 6) “here am I Lord.” Clearly, Isaiah’s call was to the specific ministry task which the Lord had for him. Ours as well, is to the specific ministry task God has for each one willing to stand in the gap. May we consistently, passionately, beseech God to work among us, as well as, pray for the response of those in whose lives He is working.
