Are you ready for Jesus’ return?

Do you realize that Jesus’ response to His disciple’s question about the end times was the longest response He gave to any questions that He was asked? After leaving the temple, and prior to His betrayal and crucifixion, Jesus told His followers that not one stone of their beautiful temple would be left upon another, indicating they were already entering the end times. Israel as a people had long been waiting for their Messiah, and the disciples realized that He was that One. Their question was “when will these things be?” Matthew 24 & 25, Luke 21 and Mark 13 all record different versions of Jesus’ answer. He spoke of specific signs that would happen prior to His 2nd coming. Other New Testament writers also wrote concerning the end times; among them, Paul, Peter, John and Jude. Actually many Old Testament writers made reference to the Day of the Lord which proceeds Jesus’ coming to set up His 1000 year earthly kingdom, and thus fulfill God’s covenant with David. In our day there are many who are asking the same question that the disciples asked, “when will these things be?” Certainly as a follower of Christ the believer should have the spiritual perception to discern the times in which we live. Didn’t Jesus tell His disciples to watch? Even more, He said “and what I say to you I say to all, Watch!” (Mark 13.37) Some of the things that the New Testament says about the end of time reference activities during the tribulation period which happens during Israel’s 70th week according to Daniel 9.24. A literal fulfillment of this 70th week is believed by many to happen after the rapture of the church. The stage is set! An army of 200 million is already a reality. (Revelation 9.16) Scoffers and mockers already abound. (2 Peter 3.3 & Jude 1.18) Men already demonstrate that they are lovers of self rather than lovers of God. (2 Timothy 3.1) Are you watching? Are you ready? Will you be like one of the wise virgins of Matthew 25.1-13? Remember, the Lord will come as a thief in the night when most are saying “peace and safety.” (1 Thessalonians 5.1-3) That’s why Jesus said “watch therefore and pray!” (Luke 21.36)
